On January 11th, 2024 at 11:09am, less than 11 months after MainNet launch, Geode Blockchain seamlessly upgraded its runtime to remove the SUDO. The chain is now officially fully decentralized and community led! Not only does the original SUDO account no longer have any of those super user powers, but the code upgrade ensures that no account will ever have super user privileges in the future either. This historic upgrade was voted on by the Geode community using our built in democracy features that allow the community to decide on upgrades and have those upgrades applied immediately and automatically after community approval. Upgrades to the chain runtime on Geode Blockchain are “forkless” – that is, seamless and easy, without the need for the complex and coordinated node upgrades seen on Ethereum’s chain and other major chains. Moving forward, the community is in charge and governing itself. Guru Kathryn, Geode’s Founder, who maintained the original SUDO account noted that, “This is a massively important moment in the growth of Geode Blockchain as a blockchain infrastructure and even more so as a connected community. I could not be more proud and excited to see it happen and I am equally excited to put this power in the hands of the Geode community at large.”
